William le Brouillard arrives at his new estate, Greneforde, to find both it and its mistress, Lady Cathryn, a disheveled and dirty mess. The estate--a gift from the king--may prove to be more trouble than it's worth. What William does not realize is that Cathryn has deliberately made herself and her lands appear unattractive because she does not welcome his presence. But she is forced to admit to herself that she needs William's protection, and an uneasy alliance begins to grow between William and Cathryn. Will it become a romance?
