The Elusive Flame

Published 25 years after Kathleen E. Woodiwiss's successful debut novel, THE FLAME AND THE FLOWER, THE ELUSIVE FLAME introduces readers to Beau Birmingham, the handsome, courageous, seafaring son of the previous book's passionate couple, Heather and Brandon Birmingham. All grown up and captain of his own ship, Beau is docked in London when he runs into childhood playmate Cerynise Kendall, an enchantingly beautiful artist who is attempting to flee from the clutches of her beloved, deceased companion's odious nephew. Beau agrees to save Cerynise but warns her that the only way they can escape together is to marry. Upon the understanding that they will annul the marriage once they reach Cerynise's uncle in Charleston, the unlikely, argumentative couple ties the knot prior to an eventful sea voyage, which will take them through danger, illness, and, finally, passionate love.
